Young shopper OK after being clipped by car outside Wal-Mart

Waterford — A child getting out of his family’s car to shop at Wal-Mart Thursday evening was clipped by a Jeep Wrangler but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the store’s parking lot.

A fire truck from the Oswegatchie Fire Co. and an ambulance from the town responded to the incident.

The boy’s father declined to give his son’s name or age but said that the family was from Rhode Island and that they were more “shaken up than anything.”

When the ambulance arrived, the father and son walked into the ambulance, where the boy was evaluated by emergency personnel. He was not taken to the hospital, and the family resumed their plans to shop.

The driver of the car was allowed to leave the scene.

Police did not return a phone call requesting more information Thursday night.
