    Sobriety checkpoint scheduled in Preston

State police from the Troop E barracks in Montville have announced they will be conducting sobriety checks in the area of Route 12 and 2A in Preston from the evening of Dec. 22 into the early morning hours of Dec. 23.

Lt. Samuel Izzarelli, commanding officer of Troop E, said in a press release that in addition to the checkpoint, troopers also will be actively enforcing speed limits, seat belt requirements, cellphone use and aggressive driving.

Aggressive driving, following too close, distracted driving and speeding, along with failing to use safety restraints, needlessly claims the lives of motorists on Connecticut roadways every year, according to Izzarelli.

Troopers will continue to use marked and unmarked cars and other resources to identify unsafe drivers and will take strict enforcement action against them, he said.
