RI men arrested for alleged assault on officers at MGM Grand

Ledyard — State police from the Casino Unit arrested three Providence, R.I. men and even had to Taser one of them after the trio assaulted several officers early Tuesday outside the MGM Grand valet.

Curtis Monteiro, 24, Ventura Wilson, 26, and Jason Robinson, 25, were each charged with interfering with police and breach of peace.

Ventura was also charged with third-degree assault while Monteiro was charged with assault on a police officer.

Police said at about 2:20 a.m. detectives from the Casino Unit responded to a report that an assault had occurred inside the Shrine night club.

When detectives arrived at the scene, they were told that the parties involved in the assault had left and were heading towards the MGM Grand hotel lobby.

Police found the men outside near the MGM valet. When police attempted to arrest Wilson, who had assaulted the victim, he immediately began fighting with detectives.

Police said Robinson attempted to stop police from arresting Wilson and began to fight with them.

Both Wilson and Robinson were taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Police said Monteiro began pushing MGM security and as detectives went to arrest him, he started to fight with them. Police said that Monteiro punched one of the officers in the face and attempted to grab the detective’s firearm from his holster.

Detectives had to use a Taser to arrest him. He was treated and released from the William W. Backus Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

All men are out on bond and are scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Jan. 15.
