Man found in river was suicide victim

New London – The man found last week in the water off City Pier died of suicide by drowning, according to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The body of Morgan Churchill, 59, was recovered in the Thames River by state police divers around 2 p.m. Tuesday, police Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said. The police department called in divers and the U.S. Coast Guard after an investigation led police to City Pier.
