    Man charged in Waterford standoff

Waterford — Police identified and charged the armed man Sunday who engaged them in a six-hour standoff Saturday night on Ferri Drive before surrendering.

Jonathan Bill, 49, of 28 Ferri Drive, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, threatening and interfering with police. He is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Tuesday.

Police said they searched Bill's home and seized several firearms but declined to describe them.

No one was injured in the incident, but police reported that Bill was originally taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Police said they were called to the dead-end street at 3:21 p.m. Saturday for a verbal domestic dispute. When they arrived, they spoke with a subject who told them Bill was inside the home and said "I'll shoot the first cop I see."

Members of the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit were able to persuade the man to leave the house about 9 p.m., police said.

Waterford police had evacuated nearby residents from their homes and unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with the man before they called state police for assistance, police said.

On Sunday a police officer remained stationed on Ferri Drive off Route 1 at the home.
