Jewett City man charged with synthetic marijuana possession

Brooklyn — State police said they found about 21 pounds of synthetic marijuana in the car of a 55-year-old Jewett City man Saturday.

The synthetic marijuana was contained in 1,100 bags packaged for bulk sale, with a total “street value” of about $16,000, police said.

Police charged Vipin S. Patel of 112 Brown Ave., Jewett City, with possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

The Troop D Quality of Life Task Force stopped the 2002 Chrysler Voyager minivan with Connecticut plates at about 2:44 p.m. Saturday at Route 6 and Day Street in Brooklyn. Vipin, the driver of the car, granted consent to the task force to search the car, where the police said they found the substance. The Statewide Narcotics Task Force–East Office arriving at the scene assisted the investigation.

Patel was released on a $25,000 bond and will appear in court on March 20.

Anyone with information on the illegal sale of narcotics or synthetic marijuana is asked to call the Troop D Anonymous Tips Hotline at (860) 779-4950.
