Stonington — Police have charged the second of the two men who they say burglarized several Pawcatuck homes in January, including one in which they allegedly entered a Timber Ridge Drive residence while the homeowner was sleeping.

Emmanuel Fonseca, 20, of 98 W. Broad St., Apt. 14, was extradited on Monday from Rhode Island, where he had been held at the Adult Correctional Institutions after being arrested by Westerly police in February for attempted burglary. In Rhode Island, Fonseca has three adult convictions for larceny, three for violation of a no contact order and two for disorderly conduct, along with convictions for domestic assault, failure to relinquish a telephone, domestic vandalism, drug possession and willful trespass.

Fonseca was charged in Connecticut Monday with first-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief. He was arraigned in New London Superior Court Tuesday.

Police have already charged Leonard K. Fayerweather, 24, of 98 W. Broad St., Apt. 18, in connection with the burglaries. He is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center and is next slated to appear in court on April 1.

Both men lived at the Elm Tree Inn in downtown Pawcatuck at the time of the burglaries.

Police have charged the two men in connection with burglaries on Courtland Street, Lathrop Street and Palmer Street that were reported Jan. 24 and the Timber Ridge break-in on Jan. 26. Televisions, jewelry, cash, electronics and other items were taken.

Police apprehended Fayerweather at his apartment about 40 minutes after the Timber Ridge break-in and found rubber gloves in his car, basketball sneakers that matched tracks they found in the fresh snow at the scene and some of the items they say were taken in the burglaries. In addition, tire tracks in the snow matched that of the “doughnut” spare tire on his car.

Police have also obtained surveillance video from a North Stonington pawn shop showing the two men selling jewelry and silverware. The shop owner provided police with receipts and photographs of the items, which the burglary victims identified as having been taken from their homes.
