Former student charged with threatening Wheeler principal

North Stonington – A former Wheeler Middle/High School student is due in court Thursday to answer to charges that he threatened and was verbally abusive to the school principal after being told to leave school grounds.

Carlos J. Pesante, 18, of 973 Stonington Road, Pawcatuck, was charged with second-degree criminal trespass, loitering on school grounds, threatening and second-degree breach of peace.

Schools Superintendent Peter Nero said Pesante came to the school looking for a student and when told to leave verbally threatened school principal Chris Sandford.

"We have a zero tolerance policy. This will not be tolerated," Nero said.

State police on Tuesday said criminal charges against Pesante do not include first-degree breach of peace, an indication that some sort of imitation explosive, incendiary device or hazardous substance was used. The information initially released by police on Monday was incorrect due to a clerical error, police said.
