Waterford - A pair of alleged thieves with expensive taste in liquor was charged with going on a package store shopping spree this week with a stolen credit card, police said.

Henry B. Shields II, 27, of Flushing, N.Y., and his alleged accomplice, James Louisy, 30, of Brooklyn, N.Y., were arrested Tuesday, just hours after police say they visited at least four different package stores in Waterford and East Lyme with a stolen credit card.

Police said the two men purchased several thousand dollars' worth of liquor, including Johnny Walker Black Label whiskey, Hennessy cognac, Ciroc vodka and several cases of Grey Goose vodka.

Among the alleged victims were Silva's Package Store in Waterford; and Mermaid Liquors, Village Wine and Spirits, and Main Brace Package Store, all in East Lyme.

Police were tipped off to the thefts when a New York resident called one of the package stores to inform them someone was fraudulently using her credit card, according to an arrest warrant affidavit in the case.

The two men were stopped by state police on Interstate 95, near Exit 64, after local police distributed information about the car the two men were driving.

Waterford Police Lt. David Burton said an ongoing investigation is being jointly conducted by Waterford and East Lyme police.

Facing charges that include multiple counts of larceny and illegal use of a credit card charges, the two men were arraigned in court on Wednesday and are due back on June 5.
