Police use Taser to subdue New London man

    Kenneth Barnhill

New London — Police Sunday night had to use a Taser on a New London man as they attempted to arrest him on multiple narcotics charges.

Kenneth Barnhill, 28, of 94 Truman St., was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, three counts of assault on a police officer, interfering with police and risk of injury to a minor.

Police said they received information that Barnhill was transporting drugs. Police located Barnhill’s car and conducted a motor vehicle stop.

Police said that they saw Barnhill drop narcotics on the floor of the vehicle. As police attempted to arrest him, they said Barnhill “violently” resisted.

Police said that officers could not use pepper spray because there was a child in the vehicle. A sergeant at the scene used the Taser and brought Barnhill under control.

    No injuries were reported.

A passenger in the car, Jordan Rodriguez, 18, of 237 Ledyard St., was charged with interfering with police and possession than less than a half ounce of marijuana.
