Danielson — A man who is charged with shooting a Willimantic police officer has acknowledged to investigators that he killed his father in February, Connecticut State Police said in the arrest warrant.

Andrew Samoulis, 34, was arraigned Wednesday in Danielson Superior Court on charges including attempted assault on a police officer. The state police report filed with the court said he acknowledged fatally shooting his father, John Samoulis, in the house the two shared. Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found at the home.

Judge Hope Seeley ordered a mental health evaluation and kept Samoulis’ bail at $1 million. Samoulis’ lawyer said he has a history of mental health issues.

Willimantic officers went to Samoulis’ home Tuesday morning after someone told authorities they were concerned about the residents’ well-being, authorities said. Samoulis opened fire on officers inside the home and fled. He fired on three state troopers, police said.

Police described Samoulis as wearing camouflage pants, a ballistic-style vest, carrying a long gun and running through the woods. When confronted by police and ordered to surrender, he instead fired his gun and fled, police say. He was caught during a foot chase, police said.

Police say they found a long rifle outside Samoulis’ house.

An officer who was shot during the conflict at the house was recovering at Windham Hospital. His name and condition were not immediately released.
