Community policing efforts lead to drug arrests in Norwich

    Gilberto Valentin-Sanchez

Norwich – Two North Cliff Street men are facing drug-related charges following efforts by the police department's community policing unit.

Police said a narcotics investigation, conducted with the help of the narcotics unit, had focused on the area of Cliff and North Cliff streets after community police officers noticed suspicious activity indicative of street level narcotics sales, police said in a statement.

Police tracked the source of the activity to 20 N. Cliff Street, Apt. 3, and on Thursday evening arrested convicted felons Gilberto Valentin-Sanchez, 53, and Baudilio Valentin, 51.

Police said they seized more than 2 grams of heroin, assorted narcotic pills, cash and packaging material.

Valentin-Sanchez was charged with sale of heroin, possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to sell. He was held in lieu of a $50,000 bond pending his appearance Friday in Norwich Superior Court.

Valentin was charged with possession of narcotics and was released on a $5,000 bond.

Police ask that citizens report suspicious activity in their neighborhood and call the Norwich Police Department at (860) 886-5561 or the department's anonymous tip line at (860) 886-5561 ext. 500.
