11th annual Connecticut firefighters memorial service is Sunday

Windsor Locks - The Connecticut State Firefighters Association Memorial Foundation, in cooperation with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Commission on Fire Prevention and Control, will hold the 11th Annual Firefighters Memorial Service at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Connecticut Fire Academy, at 34 Perimeter Road.

“This memorial service provides us all with a valuable opportunity to honor all of the brave firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty,” state Fire Administrator Jeff Morrissette said in a statement. “We will never forget the sacrifices they have made.”

Easton Volunteer Fire Department volunteer Lt. Russell F. Neary, 55, who was struck by a falling tree while clearing debris from a roadway in October, will be added to the memorial this year.

The public is invited to join firefighters from throughout Connecticut at the hour-long event to be held rain or shine.
