    UPDATED: Portion of Route 214 in Ledyard reopens after serious car accident

    Ledyard— Route 214 between Whalehead Road and Route 117 has reopened after a car crashed into an utility pole early Thursday morning.

    At about 1 a.m. the Ledyard and Gales Ferry fire companies, along with two Ledyard ambulances and Ledyard police responded to the accident that happened in front of 98 Route 214.

    Ledyard Fire Chief John R. Doucette said two occupants had to be extricated from the vehicle .

    Police said the Kyle Fox, 23, of Route 163, lot 4, Uncasville, was taken to the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. The vehicle passenger, Andrew Hernandez, 24, of 69 Flintlock Road, Ledyard, was transported to the William W. Backus Hospital.

    The roadway was closed for more than 10 hours as Connecticut Light & Power crews repaired the pole.
