Norwich — A Norwich man with a growing list of felony drug-related criminal charges was arrested again on Thursday following a search of his 112 Chestnut St. home, police said.

Norwich police patrol officers and detectives, with assistance from the Statewide Narcotics Taskforce - East Office, executed a search-and-seizure warrant Thursday morning at Eric Ortiz's second-floor apartment.

Police seized more than 24 grams of cocaine, 80 bags of heroin, 50 grams of marijuana, cutting agents used to manufacture drugs, scales, packaging material and more than $2,200 in cash, according to Detective Sgt. James Tetreault.

Ortiz was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell within 1,500 of a school, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and operating a drug factory.

Ortiz posted a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 5 in Norwich Superior Court.

Court records show it was the third time Ortiz was arrested in the past five months. He has pending cases stemming from arrests earlier this year by both Norwich and New London police.

Norwich police arrested Ortiz on July 12 on six felony drug-related charges after they said they found 400 bags of heroin in his possession. New London arrested Ortiz on Nov. 5, records show, on four felony drug sale and possession charges.

Ortiz has since pleaded not guilty to the July 12 case. He is due to appear Nov. 19 in New London Superior Court for the Nov. 5 arrest.
