Norwich – Police charged a 60-year-old Groton man this morning with allegedly shooting a male relative with a flare gun.

David J. Walski, of 55 Crouch Ave., fired several rounds from the flare gun at the man on Fountain Street at approximately 9:20 a.m. before driving away. The man was hit once, and one flare entered his house but caused no significant damage, according to police.

The man was brought to William Backus Hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury, police said.

Police responding to a 911 call about the incident stopped Walski’s car on Washington Street. They recovered a flare gun and arrested him. He was charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, keeping weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon and breach of peace. He was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Monday.
