    Crash leads to drunken driving charges against New London man

    New London – A motor vehicle crash early Monday led to drunken driving and heroin possession charges against a New London man.

    Police said Jonathan Olivencia, 24, of 274 Connecticut Ave. struck a utility pole at Vauxhall and Colman streets shortly before 2 a.m. Police said Olivencia was found walking several blocks from the accident scene. Witnesses identified him as the operator of the vehicle involved in the accident, police said.

    Olivencia was found to be in possession of 12 bags of heroin and a small amount of marijuana. He was also intoxicated, police said.

    Olivencia has been convicted of drunken driving at least once before and has been arrested numerous times for driving with a suspended license, police said.

    He faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell, failure to carry registration and failure to carry insurance.
