New London man charged with DUI after driving into pole

New London — A New London man was arrested early this morning after police said he was driving under the influence when he struck and snapped an utility pole on Colman Street near Vauxhall Street.
Alexander Kydd, 22, of 24 Adelaide St., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in an established lane.
Police said the accident happened around 12:32 a.m. When police arrived, they found the utility pole in two pieces. No injuries were reported.
The street is closed as a Connecticut Light & Power crew repairs the pole. No power outages were reported.
