UPDATED: Clinton teen charged with manslaughter in infant daughter's death

    Reushawn Foster

Clinton — An 18-year-old male was charged with first-degree manslaughter Wednesday in the death of his 8-week-old daughter.

In March 2013, Clinton police responded to a home for a report that an 8-week-old infant was not breathing. Emergency personnel at the scene began to administer CPR to the infant, who was airlifted to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

After a few days at the Yale-New Haven Intensive Care unit, the infant succumbed to her injuries and died. Medical staff told police that the baby's injuries were consistent with that of shaken baby syndrome.

Police said the parents of the infant were identified as a 16-year-old female and a 17-year-old male who resided in Clinton. The investigation determined that the juvenile father of the victim, Reushawn Foster, now 18, was identified as the only suspect in the case, police said.

Police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the baby died of blunt head trauma and ruled her death a homicide.

Police said Foster had since moved out of state and was living in Columbia, S.C., with family members.

On Feb. 18, Foster was arrested in Columbia and charged with being a fugitive from justice. Foster waived extradition and was brought back to Connecticut Wednesday.

Foster is being held in lieu of a $750,000 bond and is currently in custody at the Juvenile Detention center in Hartford.

Editor's note: This version adds Reushawn Foster's name. Clinton police had previously identified him as an unnamed 17-year-old male.
