Norwich - Police Chief Louis J. Fusaro, Sr. on Tuesday announced the hiring of two new police officer recruits.

Jared Nelson, 28, of Hebron and Jared Homand, 24, of Plainfield, both former correctional officer for the state of Connecticut and assigned to Osborne Correctional Institute in Somers, will be sworn in Wednesday as the newest members of the department.

Both men will begin training at the Connecticut Police Academy Friday. If they successfully complete their training, they will graduate in September.

Nelson was raised in Willimantic and graduated from Windham High School in 2005. He lives in Hebron with his wife and son.

Homand was raised in Plainfield and is a 2007 graduate of Plainfield High School. He earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Three Rivers Community College in 2012.

After graduation from the police academy, the officers are expected to undergo field training before taking assignments on a patrol shift.
