Police identify person rescued from car that went down Old Lyme embankment

Old Lyme — State police Friday have identified the person who had to be rescued from a car after he drove it down an embankment into wetlands Wednesday in the area of Boston Post Road as 37-year-old Mark Katuzney of Old Saybrook.

Katuzney was flown by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital with a serious head injury, where he was listed Friday in good condition.

His condition was not immediately available Friday morning.

Police said Katuzeny was traveling westbound on Route 1 when he lost control trying to negotiate a curve and drifted in the westbound shoulder area. Police said he struck an utility pole and about 25-feet of guardrail. The vehicle then fell down an embankment into standing water. The Old Lyme Fire Department removed him from the car.

    The accident remains under investigation.
