Groton — Amtrak officials have identified the person struck and killed by a train off Depot Road Wednesday as 31-year-old Michael J. Turner of Groton.

Christina E. Leeds, an Amtrak spokeswoman, said Thursday the accident occurred about 7:35 p.m. when the Acela Express Train 2168 struck Turner east of New London. There were no reported injuries to crew members or to the 210 passengers on board.

The train was delayed for two and a half hours.

Groton Town Police were also at the scene assisting with the investigation.

Turner, of 14 Norfolk Court, was charged May 10 in Groton Town with using a motor vehicle without the owner's permission, interfering with a police officer and driving with a suspended license.

The cause and manner of Turner's death was not immediately available from the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where the autopsy is to be conducted.
