The man accused of fatally shooting Joey Gingerella in Groton on Dec. 11 has been returned to Connecticut after he was found attempting to cross the border into Canada.

Dante Hughes, 30, of Groton was detained by Canadian officials at the border Dec. 13 and turned over to the United States Marshals Service and held at the Niagara County Jail in Lockport, N.Y., on Tuesday. He was presented at Niagara County Court on Wednesday and returned to detectives from the Groton Town Police Department on Wednesday after waiving extradition, according to a news release issued Wednesday evening.

Hughes will be presented for arraignment on a murder charge at New London Superior Court on Thursday. The case remains under investigation.
