Groton — Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that began in the kitchen of a mobile home on Flanders Road on Wednesday.

The fire, in a unit at the Rogers Mobile Home Park, began just before 2 p.m. when grease ignited on the stove while the resident was cooking, Mystic Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Manfredi said. The fire spread to the lower cabinets in the kitchen but did not go further, he said.

The resident of the unit escaped outside, closing the door as she left.

“She shut the door, so that didn’t allow oxygen to get to the fire,” he said. “It was a quick knockdown.” Firefighters put out the fire in about 10 minutes, he said.

No one was injured. Manfredi said the town building official would inspect the unit that afternoon to determine whether it was safe for occupancy.

Firefighters from Center Groton, Noank, Old Mystic, the Naval Submarine Base, as well as Mystic River Ambulance and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital medics assisted at the scene.
