Norwich — Four tenants were displaced after firefighters extinguished a fire in an empty apartment late Sunday morning at the Wauregan Apartments, formerly known as the Wauregan Hotel, on Broadway.
At 11:48 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire on the fifth floor of the building and found smoke coming from the apartment. Firefighters found a small fire inside being controlled by the sprinkler system and extinguished the remaining fire. The apartment was empty.
The fire department said it then shut off the sprinkler system and used salvage covers to limit the damage. The Red Cross assisted the displaced tenants.
