Norwich woman accused of embezzling from disabled client

Waterford― Police arrested a Norwich woman Sunday and charged her with stealing more than $4,200 from a disabled Waterford man while she was working as an in-home health aide.

Brianna Drayton, 28, of 417 Boswell Ave, Apt. 2, faces four counts each of second-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny. Police allege Drayton was employed with Silver Slippers, a home healthcare company, when the thefts occurred at the home of a severely disabled and wheelchair-bound client. Police said Drayton made several fraudulent withdrawals from the victim’s debit card in July of 2021.

Waterford police said Drayton was on parole at the time of the alleged crime. Court records show Drayton has several past criminal convictions. In 2015, Drayton was sentenced to three years in prison and seven years of special parole for a guilty plea for her role in an armed robbery in New London in 2014.

Drayton was arraigned in New London Superior Court on Monday and held on a $50,000 bond. She was ordered not to work as a home health aide or contact the victim. She is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 6.
