New London ― Police are investigating the theft of an undetermined number of dirt bikes from one of the city’s impound facilities.

Police said the break-in occurred in the early morning hours on Thursday. Police declined to release the location of the theft out of concern for future thefts.

The location is used to store dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles seized in accordance with a city ordinance passed in 2018 that prohibits the vehicles from city streets. Police said they have accumulated about 30 dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles that are expected to be scrapped.
