Mother, son face assault charges from Sept. 9 bar fight in Norwich
Norwich ― A mother and son from Norwich were arrested Thursday on assault charges stemming from a Sept. 9 fight at the Latin Quarters Bar at 80 Broadway in downtown Norwich.
John V. Kelly IV, 24, of 67 Peck St., #2, was charged with second-degree assault, and his mother, Cordelia Harris-Feliciano, 45, of 67 Peck St. was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace. Each initially was held on a $100,000 bond. Kelly was arraigned Friday and was held on a $75,000 bond with his next court date on Feb. 15. Harris-Feliciano was released on a non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court Dec. 15.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Norwich police arrived at Latin Quarters at 1:45 a.m. and saw multiple patrons running outside stating there was a fight going on inside the bar.
Inside, officers removed a group of males in the hallway yelling at patrons inside. Officers found a victim inside on the floor having difficulty breathing due to asthma. Officers escorted the victim outside to await an ambulance.
Police said the female victim reported being assaulted by a male and his mother, later identified as Kelly and Harris-Feliciano. Kelly allegedly punched her multiple times in the face with a closed fist. “I don’t know how many times, because I lost consciousness and had a panic attack,” she told police.
The victim said Harris-Feliciano allegedly pulled her hair and punched her.
Police obtained a warrant for the two suspects. On Thursday, Norwich police said both were detained by Waterford police and transported to the Norwich Police Department.
