    Rhode Island woman killed in Stonington highway crash

    Stonington ― A driver was killed early Sunday in a single-car accident on I-95 in Stonington, according to state police.

    State police said in a news release that they responded at 1:14 a.m. to 911 calls of a pedestrian walking on I-95 southbound near exit 91.

    Troopers found a 2013 Ford Focus that had been involved in a head-on collision with a tree to the left of the highway. They determined that the pedestrian was the passenger in the accident.

    The driver, Samantha L. Stone, 21, of Ashaway R.I., was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The passenger, Jason Connell, 23, also of Ashaway R.I., was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London with suspected serious injuries.
