Norwich murder suspect to decide on hearing

The suspect in the Nov. 5 shooting death of a 30-year-old Norwich woman will have several weeks to decide whether he wants a probable cause hearing in his case.

Atlantikh Balidemaj, 22, appeared in New London’s Part A superior court on Monday where his attorney Drzislav “Dado” Coric, agreed to continue the case to Jan. 23.

Balidemaj, who remains held on $5 million bond, is charged with murder, carrying a pistol without a permit and illegal discharge of a firearm in the shooting death of Jashira Pagan outside her home at the Uncas Condominium complex at 527 W. Thames St. Police said Pagan was shot in the face.

In murder cases, a defendant is entitled to a hearing on probable cause in which a judge will decide if the prosecution has enough evidence for the case to proceed. Balidemaj may also choose to waive the hearing.

Court records show that in an unrelated case, Balidemaj’s brother, 20-year-old Vullnetar Balidemaj, and another man face gun-related charges stemming from a Nov. 1 arrest by Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police.

The arrest is connected to an early morning confrontation at Foxwoods where a victim claimed to be threatened with a gun. Police said a search of Vullnetar’s vehicle turned up a BB gun, two expandable batons and a 9mm gun with its serial number altered, also known as a ghost gun.

Free on a $20,000 bond, Vullenetar Balidemaj is charged with carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a weapon without a permit, first-degree reckless endangerment and alteration of a firearm and breach of peace.
