Montville ― An early morning fire resulted in significant damage to a Fitch Hill Road home.

A resident of 239 Fitch Hill Road called in the fire around 6:15 a.m., according to Montville Fire Company Chief Corey Gaetano. He said nobody was injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting one adult displaced by the fire, the organization said in a news release.

The fire took about an hour to knock down, Gaetano said. The fire marshal was investigating the cause early Saturday afternoon.

Extensive damage was visible in the raised side of the ranch house.

Responding were the Montville, Oakdale and Chesterfield fire companies, as well as the Mohegan Tribal Fire Department, East Great Plain Volunteer Fire Company in Norwich and Preston City Fire Department.
