Resident tells Groton Town police that he is “going to blow up”

Groton ― Police said a resident of the Eastwood Mobile Home Park called 911 Monday night reporting that “he was “going to blow up” and indicated he had explosive material in and around his bedroom.

Police said they found no explosive materials and determined there was no threat to public safety.

According to a police department news release, after emergency dispatch received the call around 11:08 p.m., police officers went to the mobile home at 301 Buddington Road and began trying to talk with the person. Police also helped neighbors evacuate their homes, due “to the unpredictable nature of this incident.”

Police said the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit’s Bomb Squad responded, and then Groton officers and bomb squad members entered the mobile home, spoke with the caller and “determined there were no explosive materials in or around the residence and that there was no threat to public safety.”

According to police, the person was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London for evaluation. No injuries were reported, and neighbors were able to go back to their homes after police determined there was no threat to public safety.

Police are investigating the incident. They encourage residents with information about the incident or other criminal activity to call them at (860) 441-6712.
