    Fire consumes home in Preston

Preston ― A fire on Friday destroyed a home at 5 Cedar Crest Drive and displaced three people.

The fire was first reported at 8:34 p.m. and firefighters arrived to find the one-story home in flames, Fire Marshal Keith Wucik said. A portion of the roof had already collapsed.

Firefighters worked for an hour to bring the fire under control. Firefighters from the Preston City and Poquetanuck departments were joined by personnel from the Mohegan Tribal, Mashantucket, Norwich and Voluntown fire departments.

No injuries were reported. The building has been condemned by the town’s building department as a total loss. Wucik said the displaced residents, two adults and one child, are receiving aid from the Red Cross.

The cause of a fire remains under investigation.
