Groton man charged with illegal possession of two assault weapons

Groton ― A Groton man arrested last month on charges he used hidden cameras to secretly record videos of a young girl is facing new charges after police said they found two illegal assault weapons in his home.

Michael Landon, 37, with a last known address of 10 Ann Ave., Mystic, was charged Monday with two counts of possession of an assault weapon.

Groton Town Police said the discovery of the weapons was made while searching a firearms safe as part of an investigation into Landon sharing nude videos of an underage girl. Landon was previously charged with voyeurism with malice, disseminating voyeuristic material and risk of injury to a child in that case and was free on a $500,000 bond when he was arrested on the new charges Monday.

Police did not say what type of weapons were discovered in Landon’s safe but said in a statement the guns meet the state’s definition of assault weapons and are illegal.

Landon was held on a $100,000 bond on the gun charges and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in New London Superior Court.
