    Man who fled search warrant service located in Groton

    Ledyard ― Town police said Friday afternoon that a man who fled a residence on Red Brook Lane when police arrived to serve a search warrant has been found and is facing charges.

    Police Chief John Rich said the department was out at about 8:15 a.m. Friday to execute a search warrant at a residence when an individual fled on foot. The man was last seen on foot in the area of Red Brook Lane.

    Ledyard Police Captain Kenneth Creutz said later in the day that a Town of Groton police officer located the man, identified as Anthony J. Gomez, 43, of 9 Red Brook Lane, on Gold Star Highway several hours after the search warrant was initiated.

    Gomez was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a drug factory, interfering with a search warrant execution, interfering with police and risk of injury to a minor. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

    Police said another individual, Samuel A. Gomez, 31, of 9 Red Brook Lane ― who did not flee ― was charged with possession of a firearm and/or ammunition by a convicted felon. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

    Ledyard Police said they executed the search and seizure warrant with help from the Waterford Police Department, Williamantic Police Department, Groton Police Department, Stonington Police Department, New London Police Department and members of the SE CT Violent Crimes Task Force, according to police.

    Multiple law enforcement agencies also joined in the search, including K9 teams from Groton Town, New London and Waterford police departments.
