    Police seize crack, $12K of cash during arrest in Groton

    Groton ― City of Groton police said they seized crack cocaine, thousands of dollars in cash and arrested a suspected drug dealer during the raid of a Brandegee Avenue home on Monday.

    Police said the home at 197 Brandegee Ave. had been the focus of an ongoing investigation into the sale of crack cocaine. Police, with assistance from a K-9 unit from the Montville Police Department, searched the home, which is within 1,500 feet of an elementary school that was in session.The school was notified of the police presence and was not affected by the investigation, police said in a statement.

    During the search, police seized 243.6 grams of crack cocaine, $12,642 in what police referred to as narcotics proceeds, multiple cellphones and other equipment used to prepare narcotics for sale, police said.

    Andre Gilbert, 53, of 197 Brandegee Ave. is charged with possession of narcotics, possession of more than a 1/2 ounce of crack cocaine with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and operating a drug factory.

    Gilbert was on probation at the time of his arrest. Public records show Gilbert was arrested on drug-related charges by New London police in 2018 and convicted in January of sale of narcotics, a felony. He was sentenced to two years of probation.

    Gilbert was released after posting a $125,000 bond.
