NL chase leads to crash, arrest of Groton man

New London ― Police arrested a suspect in an armed domestic violence incident on Tuesday after they say the man crashed his vehicle into a utility pole at the intersection of Walden Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Hassan Ibrahim, 32, of 369 Long Hill Road, Groton, Apt. 66, was charged Tuesday with driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, engaging an officer in pursuit and using a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission.

Police said at the time of his arrest, Ibrahim was also wanted in connection with two prior domestic-related incidents and charged by warrant with carrying a dangerous weapon, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree burglary, criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment and interfering with an officer.

In a Sept. 20 incident, police said Ibrahim aimed a gun at a woman and threatened to kill her. Ibrahim was held on bond overnight and arraigned Wednesday in New London Superior Court. Bond information was not immediately available.
