New London school employee dies in crash

Hebron ― A 23-year-old New London school employee died Sunday in a crash here, state police said.

Sydney Ledoux of Bolton was killed when her northbound Ford Escape, for an unknown reason, veered into the southbound lane of Route 85, went off the road and struck a mailbox and tree at 2:08 a.m. Ledoux, the lone occupant of the SUV, sustained a fatal injury.

In a letter to the school community, New London School Superintendent Cynthia Ritchie said Ledoux was a districtwide speech and language pathology assistant who was “an incredible, positive influence in our district.”

Ledoux was working Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Campus, Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School and the Early Childhood Center at B.P. Mission at the time of her death. She was also pursuing a college degree, Ritchie said in her message.

Ritchie said counseling would be made available to any staff members or students who needed support.
