Pedestrian critically injured in Groton hit and run

Groton ― A pedestrian was seriously injured Thursday afternoon after being struck by an SUV on Long Hill Road in front of Koto’s Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi, according to Groton Town Police.

Police responded about 2:55 p.m. Thursday to the accident, Lt. Joel Lenda said.

He said Thursday night that the pedestrian was in critical condition.

Police blocked off a portion of Long Hill Road for about six hours as they investigated. The road was reopened around 9:06 p.m., Lenda said.

The regional accident reconstruction team responded to help with the investigation. The team includes officers from the Town of Groton, Ledyard and Stonington departments.

Lenda said police had not yet located the driver who struck the pedestrian. He said more information would be released Friday morning.
