NL man charged with arson, endangering minors
New London ― A city man who lived in a home that was badly damaged by fire last month was charged Friday with four counts of first-degree arson, police say.
Elber Mena, 35, of 2 Union St., was also charged with six counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.
Arrest records indicate Mena also resided at 24 Pleasant St., the address where the fire was last month. There is still an investigation into that fire, Capt. Matthew Galante said Sunday.
He said police and fire officials plan to issue a statement regarding the case next week.
Another resident of the home, Wellington Rosario, had helped to evacuate his grandmother and three young sisters from the burning home. Seven or eight people also escaped from the home’s second floor, he said.
