Woman killed in I-95 crash in Stonington
Stonington ― A North Franklin woman was killed late Thursday morning in a three-car crash that shut down the northbound side of Interstate 95 for four hours.
The crash was reported at 11:53 a.m. in an area between exit 91 and 92.
State police identified the victim as 78-year-old Barbara Dyer. According to a state police report, Dyer’s Honda Civic was behind a pickup truck driven by Jeffery B. White, 62, of Westerly, R.I. Both were stopped in the left lane due to traffic congestion.
That’s when a Mazda CX-5 driven by Joseph M. Teixeira, 22, of East Providence, R.I., struck the rear of Dyer’s car, which struck White’s pickup truck. Dyer’s car was pushed into a ditch. She was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Teixeira was taken to the hospital with minor injuries; White was not hurt.
Traffic was diverted off exit 91 while a State Police Accident Reconstruction Team investigated. The crash is under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has video of it is asked to call Trooper Brett at (869) 848-6500, ext. 5.
