Norwich ― Norwich firefighters on Saturday night extinguished a blaze at a vacant home at 31-33 Cliff St. No injuries were reported, said fire officials.

Crews were dispatched at 7:45 p.m. for multiple reports of fire coming from the building, said Battalion Chief Marc Benjamin. He said crews encountered flames coming from the rear third-floor windows of the structure.

Benjamin said firefighters forced their way into the building before extinguishing the flames in the rear of the building. He said the fire was knocked down within 19 minutes.

Benjamin said the roof of the structure is unstable. The city fire marshal is investigating what caused the blaze.

In addition to the Norwich department, firefighters from Mohegan Tribal Fire FAST, East Great Plain Fire Department, Laurel Hill and Taftville fire departments responded to the call.
