    Two people injured in head-on crash in Salem

    Salem ― State police said two people were seriously injured in a head-on crash on Old Colchester Road (Route 354) in Salem on Tuesday.

    The crash occurred at 2:12 p.m. at the intersection of Rattlesnake Ledge Road where police said a southbound Honda Civic driven by Yuexin Zhuang, 63, of Uncasville struck a northbound pickup truck operated by Susan Mattesini, 71, of Salem.

    Two people, Zhuang and a passenger, were taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich for evaluation and treatment of injuries. Police said both were listed in stable condition. Mattesini sustained minor injuries, police said.

    Route 354 was closed for about an hour during an investigation into the cause of the crash. Police ask any witnesses to the crash to call state police at 860-465-5400.
