The Day, other media outlets receive bomb threat against Brookfield schools

Employees at The Day were among the recipients of a bomb threat against the Brookfield school district on Friday that led to the closure of the Brookfield Town Hall and the town’s public schools.

The early morning email claimed bombs were placed in Brookfield schools and made threats to blow up the homes of school district employees. The email also called for violence against individuals referred to in the message as pedophiles. No threats were made against The Day. New London is 69 miles from Brookfield, which is located in the western part of the state north of Danbury.

The school district initially announced a two-hour school opening delay. In a message to families and faculty at Brookfield Public Schools, Brookfield School Superintendent John Barile said that after consultation with the police department and town officials, “it is clear more time is needed to conduct a thorough sweep of all the schools and town hall.“

New London police were at The Day offices on Friday taking statements from the employees who received the email. Hearst Connecticut Media Group also reported receiving the bomb threats.
