Police release name of man who died in murder-suicide attempt

New London ― Police on Sunday released the name of the man who died in what they said appears to be an attempted murder-suicide.

Jamal Brooks, 31, was pronounced dead after police responded to a report of a shooting Saturday at his home at 159 Hawthorne Drive. After arriving at the scene, police said they found Brooks with a single gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted, and a 30-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

As of Sunday afternoon, the woman is still in critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital. As a suspected victim of domestic violence, police said they have no plans to release the woman’s name or the apartment number where the incident occurred.
