New London ― A car crashed into a ditch off North Frontage Road in front of Bob’s Discount Furniture and Mattress Store about 2:30 p.m. Monday.

It did not appear anyone was injured. It was unclear at the scene how many people were in the car.

Waterford’s Cohanzie and Jordan fire departments, the New London Fire Department, and New London and Waterford police responded.

The car came to rest against a guardrail and a utility pole about 10 feet below the road. The front of the car and part of the windshield were smashed and the car had burn marks on the front end.

The car had to be towed from the ditch. One lane of North Frontage Road was closed while the car was removed. Eversource officials also responded to the scene to determine if there was any damage to the pole.
