New London — A city woman is facing assault charges after police said she attacked a male victim with a decorative sword during a domestic incident.

Juanita M. Bentley, 51, of 70 Farmington Ave., Apt. F1, was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing about 11:44 p.m. Friday. The alleged victim told officers that he and Bentley had been arguing when she asked him to leave the apartment, according to a news release issued Saturday evening. Bentley then took a "Samurai type sword" from a wall hanging and cut the victim on the back and arms as he fled, the release said. He was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said Bentley cleaned the scene before officers arrived, but they were able to retrieve some evidence. She is being held in lieu of $10,000 and will be presented for arraignment Monday in New London Superior Court.
