Scuffle at New London police headquarters injures 1 officer

New London — One officer sustained minor injuries early Thursday morning after a 23-year-old “became aggressive” in the booking area of the New London police headquarters, according to police.

Police said the involved prisoner was Daqwon Graham, who has listed 22 Willetts Ave. as an address in the past but also has used a New Haven address.

Police originally arrested Graham about 2 p.m. Wednesday on drug-related charges. Those charges included two counts of possession of narcotics, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, interfering with an officer and escape from custody.

When they ran his name, officers learned Graham had warrants out for his arrest. Charges stemming from the warrants include two counts of first-degree failure to appear in court, second-degree strangulation, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct.

It was just shy of 1 a.m. Thursday when Graham allegedly acted out in the booking area. Police said Officer Mikhail Liachenko sustained injuries to his hand during the scuffle.

Because of the fight, police added assault on an officer and another count of second-degree threatening to Graham’s charges.

Information about his bond and court date was not immediately available.
