Groton City police take March 11 shooting suspect into custody

Groton — Detectives from the Groton City Police Department on Thursday took custody of the 24-year-old man charged with shooting a person in the abdomen in the early hours of March 11, police said.

Nathan Ramos of 294 Warfield St., Brooklyn, N.Y., is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, first-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Police responded to Branford Avenue about 12:30 a.m. on March 11 for multiple reports of shots fired, police said in a news release. They determined that an altercation occurred in the parking lot but all those involved fled prior to officers' arrival.

One victim was found at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound that was described as not life-threatening, authorities said.

Police identified Ramos — already on parole in New York for grand theft auto — as the person who shot the victim.

On March 26, the New York Police Department took Ramos into custody, and he waived extradition. Detectives transported him back to Groton on Thursday.

Police said Ramos is being held on a $200,000 bond, with a Friday court date.
