Montville — State police are trying to figure out who entered an Oakdale gas station mart overnight and broke into its ATM, town police confirmed Thursday.

Town police Lt. Leonard Bunnell said the perpetrator broke into the ATM at Renaldi’s Getty Mart at some point while the business was closed. The suspect also stole cigarettes from the 612 Norwich-Salem Turnpike mart, Bunnell said.

Bunnell said an employee who opened the store Thursday morning discovered what had happened. It’s unclear how the perpetrator got into the store.

State police have assumed the investigation.
